Amarna Reign Interview
by Adam Warner
Where did you come up with the name Amarna Reign? What’s the meaning behind it?
The name was actually taken from an art history class I took in college. It was the reign of Akhenaten during the amarna period, a reign of new beliefs and revolutions. It’s basically, to us, the symbol of a new era in metal music.
Who are your current members and what instruments do they play?
Brian thorburn (guitar) Brad Kilburn (vocals) David Kilburn (guitar) Matt Knuteson (bass vocals) Josh Sales (drums)
What genre would you put yourselves into?
How would you describe your music to someone?
Are your songs political, personal, fictional or something else?
Who are your influences?
Way too many to list. But the easier ones would be As I lay dying, The Acacia Strain, and Soilwork.
Describe the type of person that would be a typical fan of yours?
Someone who likes the typical metalcore band but wants to hear a little more experimentation with melodies and ambience.
Do you have any existing promotional materials we could share with others for you?
We are soon to be releasing our debut music video the first track off our current record Atonement “Deceiver”
What is your song writing process like?
We all usually come up with our parts separately then mesh them together once we start to record.
What are your songs typically about?
The darker aspects of life and the effects it’s had on us.
What image do you think your music conveys?
Darkness and in some cases a sense of inspiring hope for more to life.
What is the ultimate direction for your band? Are you seeking fame and fortune?
We just want our music to touch people and move them.
Did the recent passing of Michael Jackson affect you as a musician?
It was certainly a shock. He still holds the number one selling record of all time title. Something any musician could admire. He was a true performer and one that never lacked passion. Something I feel our band also possesses.
Do you feel your music has changed since you first started?
Absolutely, music is always about progression and maturation. If you’re not progressing then something’s not rignt.
Do you have another outlet other than myspace that your fans can access your music?
You can buy our album on both smartpunk.com and itunes!
Any opinion on the recent Kanye West incident at the MTV VMA show?
Disrespect. Enough said.
Is there anyone you’d like to acknowledge for offering support?
Our manager Mark Lafay. He’s been Great.
What do you hope your fans get from your music?
A sense of new direction. Possibly opening their eyes to a new point of view on life and the way we all live it.
