This is the End is a parody comedy about celebrities being faced with the end of the world. Jay Baruchel goes to Los Angeles to hang out with his buddy Seth Rogan. While getting stoned out of their minds, Seth suggests they go to a party at James Franco’s house. Jay has some reservations about going, but reluctantly does. Upon arriving, the house is loaded to the brim with celebrities all behaving well over the top. Shortly after arriving, all hell breaks loose… literally. The celebrities find themselves facing the apocalypse, the destruction of everything around them and have to generally deal with it and survive.

What I Like About It
There were a number of things I liked about This is the End. I liked how over the top their celebrity lifestyles were, namely with the endless illegal substance intake. It was comedic between the cast that someone WASN’T high. I think that so many normal folks believe that that’s all celebrities do is party, get high, have sex and generally go over the top. I really liked Michael Cera in This is the End because he is portrayed as this mild mannered person who is very mellow and chill. But in his role as “himself”, he was a horndog, a pervert and a massive druggie, it was just fantastic! Especially when Michael Cera smacks RiHanna’s ass and she turns and smacks him, that was brilliant.
“Just answer me one question: Is Michael Cera’s butthole as adorable as I pictured?”
I liked how the celebrities struggled to survive, but ultimately made it work. They may have been dysfunctional, but they made a go of it. I like when Emma Watson kicks everyone ass. I like how James Franco and Seth did a mock Pineapple Express sequel. And this may be really odd, but I really like that they gave the 100′ tall demon a massive penis. Normally most demons in movies are covered or have no visible genitals, but if a 100′ tall demon invaded the earth, do you really think he’d be worried about his junk hanging out everywhere? Nope, didn’t think so. I also really liked Channing Tatum being Danny McBride’s gimp, that was hilarious.
“I call him Channing Taint-YUM!”
What I Didn’t Like About It
Danny McBride. I cannot stand him. I think he comes across as trying SO hard to be funny and he is just annoying, obnoxious, irritating and I quite frankly would love to just punch him in the mouth. I have YET to see a role with him in it that I could even remotely tolerate. If it wasn’t for my adoration for Seth Rogan and most of the rest of the cast, I wouldn’t have even began watching this because I knew Danny McBride was in it.
Dear Mr McBride,
You are not funny. You always portray this attitude of being a better than everyone else, pompous, jackwagon. I’m sure in real life you have some redeeming qualities as I truly believe everyone does, but you sir have yet to show them in any capacity. Please get a role where you can BE a character, not BE yourself because yourself kind of sucks.

All in All
This is the End is a good time waster. Don’t go into this thinking it’ll be shot in some cinematic fashion or contain dialog that is emotion evoking, because it’s not. What it is, is an over the top version of celebrity parties, how they over-exaggeratedly handle horrific events and try to better themselves for the benefit of their own asses. But it does have some really great moments that will make you laugh and that’s what makes it worth it.
