Mama is a horror movie about two little girls who are more or less abandoned, and in part raised by a very malevolent spirit lovingly referred to as Mama.
The previews make this seem creepy but hokey. I was happy to see that it stared a current favorite actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as both the father and uncle of the little girls (ironic since he is also the father and uncle to the young King Joffrey in Game of Thrones). Anyhow, the father of thegirls is obviously disturbed as he attempts to perform a murder suicide, but is interrupted by the spirit, Mama. The little girls are then cared for (if you can call it that) until they are found by authorities. The uncle to the girls, Lucas, and his girlfriend Annabel ( Jessica Chastain ) take on the task of trying to raise the girls despite their now unnatural behaviors.
Long story short, Mama kills some people, creeps out people and eventually it is learnt that Mama lost her baby. The storyline is not original, a lady wrongly died and is back to exact some kind of revenge, blah. Where this story is different, is purely the fact that these two little girls have taken Mama on as a parental figure despite her incorporeal ways. That intrigues me!
The ending is horrible, HORRIBLE! The movie itself was solid enough to stand alone, but then gets kicked in the face with how terrible the ending was. There are at least 3 different ways I would have suggested it could have gone but they way they chose was just awful.
