Welcome to my blog, lovingly titled If I Gotta Get Up.
When I was a kid, I had a handful of behavioral issues as so many of us did when we were kids. I think just about every single one of us had that one parental unit who had a certain thing that they would say or do that would instill fear and discipline into us; mine was my Grandmother.
My Grandmother was a fairly frail woman and the older and bigger I got, she seemed to get smaller and thinner. For as long as I could recall, my Grandmother was the one person that I always listened to, respected without question and was most lovingly fearful of despite never having been struck once that I can ever recall. Why might you ask? Because she had only one threatening thing she ever had to say, “If I gotta get up…”, once she said that, I straightened up, stopped making whatever irritating noise I was making, or generally quit doing whatever yielded her need to say that. Thankfully I never once had to see her follow through in what would happened had she actually gotten up.
I guess in a lot of ways, that phrase has stuck with me over the years and can be applied to more than just threats, but can be applied in so many ways of day to day life. This blog is my chance to talk about a lot of different topics, but all of them will be brought together by the one thing that we all need, food. In my life, I strongly feel that almost everything we do on a near daily basis revolves around food in some way; having a healthy lifestyle, eat healthy food; having a very tight budget can make shopping for food challenging sometimes; or not enjoying something that Grandma made and being told that “if I gotta get up…”, then realizing you’re going to eat it anyhow.
Everything comes together through food.
