I went into 10 Cloverfield Lane thinking it was some kind of extension or continuation of Cloverfield (2008), however I am still uncertain if it was or not. However after some research, it turns out it IS a continuation as they exist in the same universe. Nonetheless, this stress filled sci-fi flick basically stars John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Gallagher Jr. The idea goes like this, Michelle (played by Mary) is in a car accident. When awakes in what feels like an underground room, she is greeted and informed by Howard (played by John) that a biochemical agent has destroyed everything and the world is gradually coming to an end. With them is Emmett (played by the other John) who is Howard’s neighbor and helped him build his underground safe house.
After being let out of the solitary room, Michelle makes an attempt to escape, when she’s confronted by someone who is clearly affected by the chemical agent that is in the air and realizes that some of what Howard is saying could be true. So the three of them essentially become a moderately happy little family. After some time, Michelle discovers some possible truth that Howard is crazy and/or a killer. With Emmett’s help, they begin to devise a plan for a proper escape, when everything goes terribly wrong. That’s there I’ll leave it as to not spoil it too much.

So I’m really torn about this because there are SO MANY QUESTIONS that are left pretty much completely unanswered. I like John Goodman, I really think he’s pretty great and I have yet to see anything that makes me think opposite of him being a really great actor. He’s authoritative, stern, yet creepy and questionable. Pretty sure this is the first time I’d seen Mary Elizabeth Winstead, but she did a fine job. Her character was VERY resourceful, tough and quick-witted when faced against a variety of odds. Other John, first time I’d seen him as well, his character was a little bit impressionable and dopey, yet handy when needed.
Overall, I liked 10 Cloverfield Lane. It wasn’t amazing, it wasn’t terrible, but it was pretty solid. The only thing that really set me off however was the ending. Obviously I won’t spill any beans, but when you watch it, let me know what you thought about how it all ended because quite frankly, I thought it was garbage.
